EASTER SUNDAY C
EASTER HOPE!
John 20: 1-9
MESSAGE
Today we celebrate with all Christians around the world the central event that brings us together – the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ! Let our hearts echo the “Hallelujah” and our lips utter “Happy Easter!” for this is the great day the Lord has made! And as we celebrate Jesus’ triumph over the darkness of sin and the menace of death, let us recall the important elements of our feast:
First, the event. Jesus is truly risen! As the Lord foretold his death, so did he prophesy his own rising from the tomb. The angels announced what happened, the women heard the account, Mary Magdalene and the apostles going to Emmaus experienced it. We Christians do not only say “we are certain,” but “It is certain!” that Jesus rose from the dead!
Second, the witnesses. It was natural that in the beginning, the apostles had doubts about the report of the women. Peter and John tried to outrun each other to establish the proof, and finally, on seeing the empty tomb, though still hazy and and baffled, both “saw and believed.” Like the apostles, as followers of Jesus, we stand as witnesses of his joy and love, his presence and power for we too know that he lives forevermore!
Third, the hope that flows from the Risen One. Jesus put his hope in the Father’s love for him as he hung on the Cross. Now that he is Risen, Jesus is the hope that does not disappoint. We marvel at the fulfillment of his promises in the Scripture, in the church and in history. And believing in him, we are filled with hope that our crosses will lead to glory, our burdens will be lifted up, and our tears in this life will give way to pure joy. In him, our Savior, is our hope!
REFLECT
Celebrate Easter by sharing your joy; make an act of love or charity towards a person who needs to feel the presence of the Lord this week. Happy Easter!
