Lent: Holy Wednesday
Dreadful betrayal
This scene is chilling. How could Judas bring himself to betray his Lord? He sold an incomparable love. He turned his back on a loyalty beyond measure. He disregarded a friendship unlike any other. Judas was blinded by the false belief that a few pieces of silver coins would make him happy. Shameful as it may be to admit, are we not also, in our own way, betraying our neighbors today?
We reveal other people’s secrets, exploit others, turn our backs on sworn agreements, break our own promises and words, live double lives, lie even to ourselves. Every act of betrayal against our neighbor is a betrayal of the Lord. All of us, in one way or another, become Judas to Jesus.
Lord, conquer the virus of betrayal in my thoughts, actions, and words. Help me not to hurt my neighbor anymore, especially those who truly and fully trust me.
