FINDING YOUR TRUE NORTH

MT 2: 1-12

MESSAGE

The Wise Men came from the East and the great event they were trying to investigate happened in the East. But deep within themselves, these men of the east found their “true north.” What exactly is this thing called “true north?”

It is a metaphor about life. Each of us has something of a personal compass within and that compass points us to the “north,” meaning, the true reference and purpose, the desired goal, right path and direction our lives need to take. To find the “true north” of your life means to you find your reference point, your life’s meaning, your place in the world, the mission that you and you alone have been given by God.

The Wise Men were not only learned and sophisticated but were truly “wise,” full of deep intuition and discernment. They were not only in search of the movements of the heavenly constellations. They were also seeking the meaning of all these for their own lives. Though men from the “east,” they were out to discover the “true north” of their lives – the Lord Jesus Christ, the One the mysterious star was pointing out to them.

And guess what, when they found the Christ Child, they realized the meaning of their existence; the “true north” was not that far. They came to realize that their work is a prayer, their profession is an altar, their family is a church, their home is a meeting place with God. They returned to where they came from, to the east, fulfilled that they have seen the face of God, and conscious that if they were sincere enough, God will always be found everywhere; they will always turn towards their “true north” under the guidance and in the company of Jesus.

REFLECT

Are you looking for the meaning of your life, your “true north,”? Try asking the Lord to enter your heart and reveal to you his presence, not far away, not distant, but right where you live and work, where you pray and play, where you love and serve. Jesus, you are my True North! Amen.
