THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER A

THANK YOU, FOR WALKING WITH US…

LK 24: 13-25

MESSAGE

Easter is a season of apparitions; the Risen Christ makes himself visible, makes himself available, makes himself tangible, to his beloved disciples. He does not explain to them what happened inside the tomb. He does not elaborate on how his dead body returned to vibrancy and vitality. He merely appears at the right moment, when they need him most!

He appears to them when they are afraid. He comes to them when they are sad. He approaches them when they are disappointed. He is present to them when they are about to give up. Most of all, he appears to them when they need a companion on the way. This is how it happened with the two disciples returning to Emmaus from Jerusalem, filled with sorrow, sadness, and despair.

These disciples felt the world had collapsed around them. They felt their dreams vanished. They believed it was all over with the story of Jesus and their fascination with him. But no, Jesus comes at first inchoate, and slowly revealed as the Risen One, the Present One, the Companion on the Way.

Jesus rose from the dead not to proclaim power. He did not return to sow guilt or fear. His resurrection proclaims his nearness, his love, his commitment to journey with those who yearn for his presence and his peace. He wants us to know that from now on, we will never be alone.

REFLECT

Today, we always need someone we can rely on to be a good friend, a reliable neighbor, a trusted companion. However, in people, we often feel ignored or betrayed. Why not turn to the Lord Jesus and invite him to manifest his Resurrection in your life as you co-journeyer on the road of life? He does not merely appear; he remains with us in prayer, the sacraments, and in his Word. Thank you for being with us, Lord Jesus!
